Philadelphia State Hospital, also known as Byberry, was originally built in 1912 and was operated by the City of Philadelphia.  In 1938 the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania took over operations at the hospital becuase of conditions that were not exceptable.  Over the year Byberry has been investigated to many time to count.  But in 1987, by order of the governor, a 18-member task forces was formed and it was decide to close the state hospital within two years for the better of the patients.  The hospital officially closed its doors in 1990.  The grounds and buildings have been abandoned ever since.
